Created by the Fae for the sole purpose to serve their every need in whatever way that suits their purpose Shifters have a long history of pain and suffering at the hands of the Fae. It wasn’t until the Shifters of each clan began realized in order to stop their subjugation by the Fae, they would need to unite. So united they finally won their freedom and forced the Fae back to Faerie.
On occasion a few Fae, since that time, have crossed through the barrier that separates Faerie from the rest of the world and only if they are helped. Children of those Fae can live comfortably among humans and shifters, because unlike their full blood sires iron does not affect them. However, this offspring still retains one very essential talent, all of the Fae’s charm. Having none of the Fae weakness to iron and all of the Fae’s charm makes this half-Fae offspring perilous as far as the shifters are concerned.
One such mating produced Andrea Grey a half-Fae/Lupine Shifter. She is shunned by human’s, because of her Shifter heritage and hated by Shifter’s, because of her Fae half. Belonging to neither side, always apart, Andrea understands the shifters reluctance towards her half-Fae heritage. Only Andrea doesn't have the luxury walk away.
While her position within her clan is precarious, with her step father’s help she has been able to sustain a peaceful, if not mundane, life for herself. When a higher ranking and abusive male tries to force Andrea into accepting his mate-claim, she refuses. Insulted by her refusal, the male abusiveness accelerates and he retaliates violently, and her step father is not strong enough to protect her anymore.
With no place to flee, she is forced to accept feline shifter Sean Morrissey’s offer of protection in the form of amate-claim, in name only. When they finally meet, Andrea knows she may have just jumped rightfrom the frying pan into the fire. Only this time she likes the way it burns. Sean’s helping Andrea was not for lack of female companionship. He only did it to help a friend. When Sean offered Andrea his protection he had no idea how this event would change his life.
Sean begins to understand why the other male had to force his mate-claim on Andrea, when he finally meets her. Clearlythe other male wasn’t strong enough to win Andrea fairly. When she defiantly and without a lick of fear looks straight into Sean’s eyes, Sean’s knows a challenge, from an equal, when he sees one and his mating frenzy answers the challenge.
Jennifer Ashley writes a gripping tale as she continues to echo one species strength and enthusiastic temperament that compels them to survive no matter how many times the tides shift against them with Primal Bonds. Civilizations have showed that same fortitude to survive though out time. When so many who should have perished didn’t, simply because their moral fiber was stronger than those who tried to destroy them. In Primal Bonds, Ashley exemplifies that same strength and fortitude into the shifters society.
Giving Andrea’s character a mysterious background and special abilities only increase the stories intrigue. As each page illuminates more of the story's plot and the link between Sean and Andrea grows stronger.
If you're haven't read any of the other books in Jennifer Ashley, Shifters Unbound series, let me assure she smoothly recaps essential information enough to enjoy Primal Bonds completely. However, if you have been following this series, it’s nice sometimes to have a recap every now and then especially in series such as this, that from one book to the next a lot happens and details get forgotten. Every detail is important whether, in the form of a recap or the instrumental part the secondary characters play, Jennifer Ashley doesn’t overlook or underplay a single thing, making Primal Bonds a richer story because of it.
The sexual chemistry that resonates between the two main characters is enough to make the reader purr…Two lonely people who for reasons beyond their control find themselves always on the outside looking in and it the fervent spirits of both that drive this story home.
