Genre: Paranormal Romance
Series: Guild Hunter, Book 1
Vampire hunter Elena Deveraux is hired by the dangerously beautiful Archangel Raphael. But this time, it’s not a wayward vamp she has to track. It’s an archangel gone bad.
The job will put Elena in the midst of a killing spree like no other—and pull her to the razor’s edge of passion. Even if the hunt doesn’t destroy her, succumbing to Raphael’s seductive touch just may. For when archangels play, mortals break.
Archangel Raphael is a member of the Cadre of Ten. The Cadre of Ten is a group of archangels that have final say over a human's request to become a vampire. In return for getting near immortality, the made vampires give themselves over to 100 years of servitude. Elena Deveraux brings back the made vampires that feel they don't need to fulfill said contract. In short, she is a vampire hunter. Elena also has a special talent, which makes her a born hunter. Born hunters are stronger and their special ability helps them sense a vampire's presence. This is a profession Elena had no choice in pursuing and that very talent is about to get her in some very hot water. When Raphael summons Elena for a job he needs done, Elena would have never thought it would be to go after an unstable archangel. Having to go after one of these powerful creatures that have lost any amount of humanity is sure to be a death sentence. In case you haven't already figured out these are not your "garden" variety angels either; they are a little bit more like the snake.
At first Raphael comes off almost like a tyrant, his aura alone radiates complete submission from everyone, without a word being uttered. You will soon discover that everything Raphael does is domineering, whether protecting his territory, punishing a wayward vampire, or seducing a woman. He is after all an Archangel there is nothing weak in this man’s demeanor. I liked it much better when he treats Elena like a desired woman, and not as an amusing toy as he sometimes does. That was until I begin to understand both characters are dominant and he had to establish that he may be stimulated by her, he could not let that be seen as weakness. As soon as Raphael has a goal in mind, he plays to win. Raphael knows as soon as he meets Elena he is going to seduce her, what he didn’t expect was how much that seduction affected him.
Nalini Singh characters aren’t the only things that ignite the pages in Angel’s Blood, the way she captures the scenery is scorching. Colors explode, textures come to life, and every detail dances together as if they were choreographed. The love scenes are dynamic and have a persuasive impact as the pages fly and your heart races to keep up. I love Nalini Singh's work and applauded as she explores a deeper more sensual world with this series.
All of her characters are amazing and the secondary characters are a signature component in all of Nalini Singh's stories as well. Ms. Singh builds worlds not just stories so don’t worry if you felt maybe one or two questions were left unanswered, they are not pertinent to this stories conclusion. Each tale is a vessel leading to the next, or what would you have to look forward to in the next book? Character grow, others introduced, etc. So by giving us these dazzling creations she helps to get us through our otherwise mundane lives. That's why most people read right? So we can escape, forget about the boss, the bills, or the traffic we have to drive day in and day out.
