Recently divorced Payton Fleming vacations in Crete, looking for a quiet resort to get away from the chaos of the death of her best friend, serial killer, and an ex-husband. The adventure at the resort brings more than she expected—a young man with a story to tell. Concerned with the age difference, Payton knows there is something else he is keeping from her.
Christian MacKenzie is an entrepreneur in the hospitality and entertainment business, owner of Nocturnal Entertainment and Hospitality Corporation (NEHC), luxury resorts and nightclubs around the world. He escapes to his favorite resort on Crete, and meets his vision of a Greek goddess, a mysterious beauty, but fears she will reject him because of what he is, a vampire.
After returning to Miami, and a rival from his past threatens their happiness, will their love survive all the obstacles along the way? And in the end will the Cougar get Her Vampire?
Vampires and werewolves in Greece! The multi-layered plot opens with several murders of female real-estate agents who had been showing houses to clients after dark.Christian is an old vampire, appearing in his early 20s, whereas the heroine Payton is a beautiful 40-year-old real-estate agent who is recently divorced and unhappy with men. When her best friend is killed, she decides she needs a real vacation, both to escape her work, her divorce, and to shake the sadness of her friend’s horrible death. She winds up at a beautiful Greek resort where there are lots of different kinds of people and, unbeknownst to her, vampires. Christian is mesmerized by her and wants to get to know her better—in all ways.
After skinny-dipping in her private pool, she notices a man who is out for his nightly run. She stares, and he suddenly stops and returns her stare, catching our heroine nude. Horrified, she manages to cover up and return to her room. The hot courtship begins. Christian, the owner of many clubs and resorts, meets her at the bar and calls her his Goddess of the Moon. After being hurt one too many times, she thinks he is way too young for her and balks at a holiday fling. However, one thing leads to another... She stops fighting fate and starts enjoying their relationship.
Of course, there is intrigue. Ian, an old friend and new werewolf enemy of Christian, is wreaking havoc in several places at Christian’s clubs and resorts. Then Christian suspects that Payton might have something to do with Ian after he reads one of her e-mails. Payton returns home. A battle between Christian and Ian starts. She learns that one is a vampire and the other a werewolf, and how she’s caught in the middle of the intrigue as Ian wants to hurt her to get to Christian.
The Cougar and Her Vampire by Cynthia R Arsuaga is well written, a fast read, good fight scenes, and hot sex… What more can a girl ask for when she needs a quick summer read on the beach?
