Summary:

Lady Daniela has never taken a full human servant. At two hundred years, she’s always put it off, having a bachelor’s attitude toward bonding with another, even an inferior human. However, on her return to her sheep station in Western Australia in 1953, she meets Dev, a war veteran and laconic bushman, who has the talents to help her reclaim her station from her mother’s lover, who usurped her position there forty years before.

But after she takes care of that nasty bit of business, she’s also intending to rid Western Australia of a corrupt Region Master who is 500 years old and therefore over twice her age and strength. While a full human servant, particularly one with Dev’s unique talents, can augment her skills and resources, the more she gets to know him, the more reluctant she is to bind him to her in a way that might get him killed. But Dev has his own thoughts on the matter, and she will soon find it’s easier for a vampire to survive in the desert sun than for her to survive without him by her side.

Review:

Taking a break from his Walkabout for a much-needed beer, Devlin walks into a bar and that's when he first sees her. Finding out later she is Lady Daniela the daughter of two vampires. Now he understands what the old aboriginal met when he warned Devlin about trouble right before he stepped into that bar.

Both Devlin and Danny are haunted and alone, until that fated moment when Devlin first laid on eyes on Danny standing by the jukebox. Neither knew what lay up ahead, neither cared at that moment. Now after sharing a night of unbridled sex with Daniela, Devlin's about to enter into a world where blood sex and pain go hand in hand. Where love has no place in the blend. A position that for the first time in a while Devlin just may be able to find the soul he lost. A soul he is willing to give to Daniela forever.

Joey W. Hill has done it again in this her third installment in her vampire series. A VAMPIRE'S CLAIM is a winner!!! The Mark of the Vampire Queen's Servant is where we first meet this spunky couple. (SPUNKY? Now there's a word I bet you never thought you see in relation to one Ms. Hill's couples).  Joey W. Hill's books are best described as a contradiction of terms. They are as rough as they are soft and when the philosophical and spiritual aspects clash they fight for dominancy almost as much as her characters do. Oh yea, lets not forget, she can also throw down some of the best most erotic sex scenes I have ever read. Intense love stories through and through. Bravo Joey!!

I can't end without mentioning the covers in this series, each one gets better and better. They are as hot as the books all by themselves, am I right or what? A Vampire's Claim doesn't let us down in that area either. It was the cover for A Vampire Queen's Servant that first caught my eye and I knew I had to read that book. I had never heard of Joey W. Hill I had no idea what kind of writer she was, it didnt matter. The cover said it all. The sense of sight is used in all its glory. Anyone who has read Joey W. Hill's work knows the important part the senses play in each of her stories. The woman is a master with details. You almost feel like you are ease dropping in on her characters intimate moments. Every flick of the wrist or subtle caress is apparent. I'm glad that first book caught my attention.

I've already pre-ordered the next in this series Beloved Vampire, due out August 2009. Can't wait...
